Hey guys!

I’m Alicia. I’m a dentist living in the Midwest with my husband, two littles, and one rambunctious goldendoodle. I just LOVE baking!

It all started 7 years ago during one of the hardest years of dental school. I was stressed to the max, facing a huge course load with exams almost every other day, and I was getting 4 hours of sleep a night. I was sitting in lecture with one of my friends who pulled out a massive turkey sandwich. Envious, I noticed the bread looked… amazing

“WHERE did you get that sandwich?”

My friend proceeded to tell me that, gasp, she makes her own bread at home, and gave me some recipes to check out. I couldn’t believe it. Who would take the time to bake their own bread?!

Fast forward to a few weeks later, I became obsessed with making homemade bread. My first loaf of bread was peasant bread from Alexandra’s Kitchen, and I was instantly hooked. The science, the process, the smell in the kitchen as fresh bread baked – it was all so addicting. I began baking more and more as a way to escape the realities of dental school and it truly became one of my life’s greatest passions.

I truly think anyone can bake if you want to learn. If I can do it, so can you. I hope to inspire you to get into the kitchen and create with me.

Some fun facts about me:

  1. I grew up in the suburbs of Minnesota with my mom, dad, two siblings, and most every species of animal you can think of (hence, my love of dogs!)
  2. I decided I was a picky eater at a young age, so I grew up on processed food. Think peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on white bread, chocolate milk, butterscotch Krimpets, boxed mac and cheese… you get it. Basically, I didn’t know what fresh spinach looked like until I was 22.
  3. My favourite thing to bake is BREAD. I love the process and the care you have to give to each loaf. It’s like your little baby!
  4. I’m obsessed with The Great British Baking Show/The Great British Bake Off, and I have spent full days in bed binging on episodes. I would give anything to be a contestant!
